Beastars Meets The Boys: Itakagi pays homage to the third season with a Patriot sketch

by Harry Brown

A few days after the publication of the eighth, and last, episode of the third season of The Boys, based on the comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the mangaka Itakagi, author of the acclaimed Beastars he wanted to share his passion for the show by publishing a post on social media that caught the attention of many fans.

The story of the gray wolf Legoshi and his companions has few elements in common with the dramatic and incredibly violent events of The Boys, yet the author of the manga wanted to create a sort of bond between these two universes by creating a sketch of Homelander, or Patriot in the Italian adaptation. Portrayed by Anthony Starr, Patriot plays the role of the main antagonist of the series, being a member of the corrupt group of Seven and responsible for murders and crimes that are nothing short of disreputable.

However, Starr’s interpretation and the complexity of the character won many viewers, and Itakagi, in addition to being certainly part of it, wanted to demonstrate how the villain can appear disturbing also in another style. In fact, as you can see from his drawing, present at the bottom, Itakagi actually was able to represent Patriot with a fair fidelity to the original design, and with a sinister expression. Tell us what you think of this unexpected giveaway in the comments.

Finally we leave you to Itakagi’s tribute to the Japanese debut of The Suicide Squad.
