Pokémon: portable monsters meet other franchises in funny fanarts

by Harry Brown

Pokémon is one of the most profitable brands in the world, thanks to the vast production of video games, cards, and various merchandise that, year after year, enlarge the pockets of The Pokémon Company. Over the past 25 years of the franchise, we’ve seen fan-made crossovers, and this time one of them wanted to create a multiverse simaptic.

Thanks above all to the animated series and video games, many Pokémon have become true icons pop culture, just think of Pikachu or Charizard just to name two companions of Ash’s adventure, and it happens that these are imagined in other guises. This basic idea has been expanded to other franchises by user @buddylightningart who shared the eight fanarts below on Reddit.

Many references appear immediate, such as Bulbasaur’s bulb that transforms into Super Mario’s piranha plant, or Pikachu taking the form of Koro Sensei from Assassination Classroom, or Doctor Strange from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some references appear oddly spot on, such as Lickitung transformed into Majin Buu from Dragon Ball, Raven from Teen Titans hidden under Mimikyu’s cloak, or Honchkrow’s incredible pairing with Tsukuyomi from My Hero Academia. What do you think of it? Tell us in the comments.

Finally, we remind you that some Pokémon have turned into ninja and samurai in fanarts, and we leave you to the details on the manga inspired by Pokémon UNITE.
