In recent years, an isekai has found space among the pages of Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine that has impressed many readers: Shangri-La Frontier. The manga was adapted with the illustrations of Ryosuke Fuji from the original web novel by Katarina, and then also arrived in Italy thanks to Panini Planet Manga.

Shangri-La Frontier sees protagonist Rakuro Hizutome, inveterate gamer passionate about the so-called “Kusoge” (ugly games). One day, the boy decides to try his hand at a very popular online role-playing game, Shangri-La Frontier, in which he will go on incredible adventures with his unusual bird-faced avatar.

A long time ago, a leaker had talked about the animated adaptation of Shangri-La Frontier, although there was no further news about it. At least until today: theShangri-La Frontier anime has been officially announced with a thrilling trailer, which you find at the top of this news. The animated adaptation of the work will debut in 2023, and will be produced by studio C2.

In addition to the announcement of the series, the trailer also showed a good part of the cast. At the direction of Shangri-La Frontier we find Toshiyuki Kubooka (Harukana Receive) assisted by Hiroki Ikeshita. The writing of the series is entrusted to Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Black Clover), while Ayumi Kurashima (DEVILMAN Crybaby, Megalobox 2: Nomad) will act as character designer.

In addition to the animated series, a video game inspired by Shangri-La Frontier at the Netmarble Nexus production house. Will Kodansha’s isekai be able to replicate the manga’s success through other media?
